Our verdict

Gerber Life is a household name with an A+ (Superior) financial-strength rating, and its guaranteed life policy does exactly what it promises: if you’re 5080 and can’t get through health questions, you can’t be turned down. That reliability is the whole point of guaranteed issue.

Where we add value as an independent broker: Gerber is one carrier with one price. Before anyone settles for guaranteed issue, we check whether you qualify for simplified issue — often 2040% cheaper with full coverage from day one — and we compare Gerber’s guaranteed-issue rate against several other top-rated carriers, because on the exact same $10,000 policy the monthly premium can vary noticeably from company to company.

What we like — and what to watch

What we like

  • A+ (Superior) independent rating agencies rating and a brand most families already trust
  • True guaranteed acceptance — no health questions, no exam
  • Accidental death is paid in full from day one
  • Level premiums that never rise; coverage that can’t be cancelled for age or health

What to watch

  • Two-year waiting period on natural-cause death (standard for guaranteed issue, but confirm before you buy)
  • Issue ages start at 50 — younger applicants need a different product
  • $25,000 combined cap may be low for larger final-expense needs
  • Direct-to-consumer pricing isn’t shopped against other carriers for you

How the two-year waiting period actually works

This is the part people misunderstand most, so here it is in plain English. Because Gerber asks no health questions, it limits its risk for the first 24 months:

Die of natural causes in the first two years — your beneficiary receives all the premiums you paid back, plus 10% (110% total), not the full face amount. Die by accident at any point — the full benefit is paid, even on day one. After two full years — every cause of death is covered for the full face amount, no conditions.

Broker tip: if your health would let you pass a few yes/no questions, a simplified-issue policy usually skips the waiting period entirely and costs less. We check that first, every time — it’s free and it’s often the better deal.

How Gerber compares

Gerber’s guaranteed-issue policy sits squarely in the middle of the market on the terms that matter. Here’s how its structure lines up against a typical guaranteed-issue policy and against simplified issue, which is the option worth ruling out first.

Who Gerber guaranteed life is best for

A strong fit if you’re 5080, you’ve been declined elsewhere or have serious health conditions, you want a name you recognize with top-tier financial strength, and $5,000–$25,000 covers your final-expense goal.

Look further if you’re under 50, you could likely pass a few simple health questions, or you need more than $25,000 — in those cases another product or carrier usually beats it on price or terms.
